On a bright, early Thursday morning in November 2009, seven library students joined me in passing out 225 gift packages containing a couple pairs of work socks or a winter cap to the contract workers of Udhailiyah.
Three Cups of Tea in Udhailiyah
Inspired by Greg Mortenson’s book Three Cups of Tea, a beautiful PowerPoint lesson was created to share this story with students from kindergarten through 9th grade during library lessons. The book talk was a huge success, filling the school with a positive energy resulting from the presentation.
A Look Back at the Dhahran Clippers
In the early 80s, employees in the Offshore Projects Department at Saudi Aramco formed a softball team called the Offshore Trash. The team played together for several years, having very good success in the local Aramco league.

Jabal Las Vegas 2008 Gala Dinner (1)
On Wednesday, October 1st, the final night of the 2008 Annuitant Reunion, Jabal Las Vegas, 1,000+ attendees gathered for the traditional Gala Festival at Paris Hotel and Casino. Pre-dinner activities once again included a cocktail hour with a formal photo opportunity to help commemorate this year’s reunion with your closest Aramcon friends.

Tim Barger's 75th Anniversary Speech
Tim Barger, son of former Aramco President & CEO, Thomas C. Barger, was invited, along with 30 other children of early Aramco employees who also grew up in the Kingdom, to help celebrate the company’s 75th Anniversary. On May 20th, at a dinner hosted by Saudi Aramco President and CEO Abdullah Jum’ah, Tim gave a speech about his experience growing up as an American youth in Saudi Arabia. He has given us permission to share his words on Aramco ExPats.
Udhailiyah Community Members Party Latin Style
The Udhailiyah Jebel Dining Hall was elaborately decorated with a Latin theme June 21 in honor of the Latin Fiesta Night thrown there. The fun-filled evening included Piñata for the young and dancing to Latino beats for the old(er).

2007 "Very Old" Old Timers Luncheon
At noon on Sunday, April 15th, the ‘Very Old’ Old Timers (all in Arabia before 1950) held their annual get-together at the well-decorated El Patio Español in San Francisco. It was a pleasure for the seven of us who were there. And the buffet lunch was scrumptious beyond the most Lucullian of expectations.
Former Aramcon Jo Watts is Still Playing in the Mud!
It’s been 17 years since Jo Watts left Saudi Arabia, but the former Aramcon is still playing in the mud. She has recently opened a pottery studio in Smithville, Texas; however, her path towards becoming an artist began long ago.

Materials compiled by the late Grace Burkholder, a teacher, and amateur archaeologist, will soon be available to researchers through the University Libraries Special Collections at Binghamton University.

Elon University has been named one of the nation’s top universities for community service, earning a Presidential Award in the first President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. The University, chosen out of 514 that applied for this honor, was recognized for their exemplary overall service learning and outreach program.

The second day of the Saudi Aramco Annuitants Reunion was packed with fun. Golfers were out of bed early meeting in the hotel lobby at 7:00 a.m..
