Horses Lend Us The Wings We Lack
I came across an interesting quote by Muriel Wace, “There is no greater pleasure in the world than riding a good horse,” which made me eager to visit a horse-riding club. I then decided to take my grandchildren to Stallion Horse Riding Academy near my home which is located within walking distance in Rethibowli, Hyderabad, India.

Arabian Dowry Chests
I remember my mother telling me that when she got married in 1960 her family paid a dowry of a thousand pounds to my father for her hand in marriage. That was a lot of money back then. Dowries are found in many other societies and cultures in the world. It is common throughout the Middle East where the groom provides the dowry to the family of the bride...

The energy industry is on a journey of long and complex transition that will see the world reliant on the full palette of energy sources — including oil and gas — for many decades to come, Saudi Aramco’s president and CEO Amin Nasser told the Society of Petroleum Engineers’ 2017 Middle East Oil & Gas Show and Conference in Bahrain last week.

Happy 90th Birthday, Verne Stueber
Every year has its noteworthy events, and 1952 was no exception. In February in the U.K., Elizabeth II became Queen of England upon the death of her father, King George VI. In May, also in the U.K., the jet age of travel was born with the introduction into service of the world’s first passenger jet, the ill-fated de Havilland DH 106 Comet.
The Adventures of Samia and Taha in Turkey
Amidst two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, PCR testing, isolation, face-mask-wearing and social distancing have now become the new way of traveling in 2022. Just like that, we went on our first backpacking trip this year to Turkey for 10 days. Our life's goal is to witness, experience and explore the world, in which case this was the first of our “Adventures of Samia and Taha” that we would like to share.
Dhahran's Palace of Dreams
Growing up in Dhahran in the 1950s without television and barely radio the movies were everything, our only link with the outside world. Three movies a week with a rerun on Thursday, as kids we’d go to pretty much anything that was playing. Even if the feature was some unfathomable drama about thwarted love, boundless ambition or existential trauma in 1950s America, we’d go just for the pre-show filler.
Letter from India and Nepal
In December 1978 I went on a DOG’s tour (Dhahran Outing Group) to India and Nepal. There were about 15 in our group. Our Indian itinerary revolved around visiting the historical sites in Agra and New Delhi. All five sites we visited have since been designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites...
Welcome to Riyadh
In the 1970s the airports in Saudi Arabia were actually near their cities. Dhahran International was at the airbase a few miles from camp. The Riyadh and Jeddah airports were right in town with their entrances just off the street.
