Under: Obituary

Joan Alexander passed to be with her heavenly Father on June 12, 2013 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma after a long illness. She was born in Maplewood, Missouri on April 15, 1933 to Irma Euart (Mikel) and Elmer Euart.

Joan lived a full life of family, many life-long friends, work and adventure. She graduated from Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in 1954 with four other girls who ventured off to Houston for their first nursing jobs and remained life-long friends.

While in Houston, Joan married Bobby Alexander and a new adventure began. Two daughters were born, Kimberly in Houston then Karen in Seattle where Bobby worked for Boeing. With a few more moves in between, it appeared time to settle down. What better place to go than Saudi Arabia!

In 1966, Bobby took a job with the Arabian American Oil Company (ARAMCO) and the family moved to Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia, then later to Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. What started out to be a job, turned into a lifetime of travel to all parts of the world and forming relationships with friends who would stay in touch well into retirement through letters, Christmas cards, reunions and email.

While living in Saudi Arabia, Joan worked in administrative positions for Aramco. She was always involved in numerous community activities, and organizations. She was a member of the Protestant Fellowship.

In 1981, the Alexanders left ARAMCO and moved to New Zealand, where Bobby worked for four years with Mobil NZ. In 1985, Joan and Bobby retired to St. George, Utah where they stayed for 18 years. While living in St. George, Joan volunteered at Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church publishing the newsletter, and was one of the founders of the church's Memorial Rose Garden. In recent years Joan and Bobby lived at Concordia Senior Living, Oklahoma City, where she enjoyed activities with her friends, especially dominoes and bingo.

Joan said she had a wonderful life, which she attributes especially to her loving husband Bobby Lee Alexander who survives her. She has two daughters, Kimberly Alexander Jones married to Steven Jones of Virginia Beach, VA, and Karen Lee Alexander of Moore, OK. Her grandchildren are Jeremy Carter married to Amy Jo Carter, Adrianna Carter-Somes married to Anthony Somes, and Madi Lee Alexander. Joan has five great grandchildren Kauri, Johnathan, Kayleb, Kassidy and Allison. She is also survived by her sister Eleanor Higdon married to Bill Higdon, and her brother George Mikel married to Yvonne Mikel, plus nephews and nieces and extended family.

For her family and friends, remember this, "I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near just around the corner… All is well." Excerpt from Henry Scott Holland, The Anglican Digest

A memorial service will be held on June 29, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. at the Concordia Chapel, 7707 W. Britton Road, Oklahoma City, OK with a reception following.
