Aramco recently received a prestigious award for significant contributions to advancing Pipeline Research Council International (PRCI) research initiatives at the PRCI Research Exchange meeting (REX-2023), held in Houston, U.S.
The company was recognized for providing support that is “substantially above and beyond” the expectations of PRCI members, and for contributing to, or leading, a total of 52 projects in pipelines-related research.
Pipelines are considered lifelines in the transport of oil and gas. A network of over 24,000 kilometers is spread across the Kingdom, serving operational facilities within Aramco. Constructing and maintaining these crucial networks requires overcoming the challenges of vast terrains and harsh environments, as well as developing and adopting cutting-edge technologies to keep them safe and reliable.
The Importance and Benefits of PRCI Membership
Aramco’s participation in PRCI REX-2023 — and the research-related award received at the event — showcased the company’s technical and operational innovation, and commitment to safety and sustainability. Pipelines, Distribution and Terminals (PD&T) team members served as ambassadors, and Aramco was the sole Middle Eastern company present, bringing a unique set of geographical challenges to the forefront of the conversation.
Mohammed A. Al-Hatlani, Aramco Pipelines vice president and PRCI Executive Board member, said, “Aramco membership in PRCI is essential to enable access to international pipelines research and development.”
He added that the partnership and knowledge exchange with key international pipeline companies and research centers is an important enabler in efforts toward achieving the highest level of pipeline safety, integrity, and reliability.
Abdullah M. Al-Ajmi, Southern Area Pipelines Department director, participated in the PRCI Executive Assembly meeting, which shapes the strategic vision of pipeline research on a global level.
Al-Ajmi said: “Aramco’s membership in PRCI enables an opportunity to contribute and collaborate with experts in the direction, implementation, and adoption of research with high value to the pipeline industry. The knowledge sharing forums give Saudi Aramco the opportunity to showcase its technical capabilities and benchmark with other companies within the industry.”
About the Emerging Fuels Institute
Capitalizing on our membership in PRCI, and as part of the company’s effort to move to a lower-carbon future, Aramco and three other global energy companies led the establishment of the Emerging Fuels Institute (EFI) for the pipelines industry.
The EFI will focus on conducting research needed to ensure the safe transportation and storage of the next-generation of energy, such as hydrogen, renewable natural gas (RNG), and other potential gas and liquid fuel sources.
This energy will help meet the world’s needs while having a reduced impact on the environment. The EFI will also focus on ensuring the current pipeline infrastructure is as efficient and safe as possible — another key part of the move to a lower-carbon future.
