Maryville, Mo. - Sammy "Sam" Carpenter, 82, of The Woodlands, went to be with the Lord on May 14, 2011. He was born July 20, 1928 in Bolckow, Mo. to the late John and Blanche Carpenter.

Sam attended Northwest Missouri State University and University of Missouri, Columbia. From 1962 to 1981 he taught Chemistry at Northwest Missouri State University. He then went to work for Aramco in Saudi Arabia from 1981 to 1988. He and his wife Lois retired to The Woodlands. Sam was an active member of the Woodlands Christian Church and active in leading music at the Forum and The Gathering located in The Woodlands. He was a Mason and served in the United States Army in Washington, D.C.

Sam was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Lois Carpenter and son, John Carpenter.

He is survived by his sons, Mark Carpenter, Kevin Carpenter and wife Lisa; daughter-in-law, Twyla Carpenter; grandchildren: Ross and Kelsie Carpenter; step-grandchildren: Garrett Wilson, Jeremy Wilson and wife Danielle; step-great grandchildren: Delaney and Katherine Wilson.

Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Forest Park The Woodlands Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2011 at The Woodlands Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 1202 N. Millbend Dr., The Woodlands, TX 77380. Graveside services are set for 2 p.m. Sunday, May 22, 2011 in Bolckow Cemetery, Bolckow, Mo.
