Robert F. Stanley
Lieutenant Colonel Robert F. Stanley, 84, of Falmouth died April 4 at Bourne Manor Extended Care Facility.
Col. Stanley was born in Los Angeles and grew up in Redlands, California, the second of six children born to Arthur and Miriam (Short) Stanley.
He graduated from the United States Military Academy, West Point, New York, with the Class of 1955, and was commissioned in field artillery. He served for the next 20 years, including overseas tours to Germany and Vietnam.
Following his retirement from the military, he earned a master of business administration degree at George Washington University, then took a position with Arabian American Oil Co. (ARAMCO) in Saudi Arabia.
He and his family returned to Charleston, South Carolina, in 1993, where he taught business in the public schools and at the College of Charleston for the next 10 years.
He moved to Cape Cod in 1995, shortly after the death of his first wife, Otilia Crume Hamlett.
He leaves his wife, Marilyn Stanley of Falmouth, and her five children, Maureen Alleva of Mt. Vernon, New York, Karen Germain of Marstons Mills, Linda Cantele of Salisbury, Connecticut, Cheryl Firisin of Easton, Connecticut, and Francis McCaffrey of Falmouth; his son, R. Forrest Jr. of McCall, Idaho; and his two daughters, Catherine B. Small of Marietta, Georgia, and Mary Ellen S. Austin of Charlotte, North Carolina.
In addition to his first wife, he was also predeceased by two brothers.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Monday, April 11, at Parish of Christ the King in Mashpee.
