1922-2009
Maxcie E. Negley, 87, of Vacaville, California passed away peacefully on the morning of October 21, 2009 in Vacaville.
Mrs. Negley was born in Sterling, Nebraska in 1922, the youngest of four children to Franklin and Amalia Shadley. Maxcie was an accomplished nurse practitioner who received nursing degrees from St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska and a Master's from Creighton University also in Nebraska. She has held various administrative positions throughout her nursing career.
A few of the many highlights were witnessing an atomic bomb testing in Nevada while working for the Civil Defense Administration; she was on the founding staff of the Veterans Administration Hospital in San Diego; Maxcie also worked for 10 years in Saudi Arabia with Aramco Corporation.
Maxcie was an active volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. She received Keys to the city of Sulphur, Louisiana for her tireless work for this charity. In Louisiana she was very active in The Catholic Daughters of America. A devout Catholic, Maxcie spent countless hours volunteering in her home parish of St. Joseph and had a special fondness for the Missionaries of La Salette.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be missed.
Maxcie is survived by her son, The Rev. Phil "Skip" Negley, M.S. of Friendswood, Texas; daughter, Pat and husband Nick Havel of Vacaville; grandchildren and their spouses, Tom and Cristina, Patrick and Teresa, Liz and David, and John and Jessica; great-grandchildren, Jackson, Sophia, Theo and Tom; she is also survived by numerous extended family and a host of friends; she was preceded in death by her brothers, Earl and Franklin and sister, Leah.
There will be a visitation from 5-8 P.M. with Vigil Service at 7:00 P.M. Friday, October 23, 2009 at Vaca Hills Chapel Funeral Home 524 Elmira Road in Vacaville followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, October 24, 2009 at St. Joseph Catholic Church 1781 Marshall Road.
