John P. Conroy
John P. Conroy, 85, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, died August 11, 2015 at home with loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born Nov. 21, 1929, in Flushing (Long Island), NY to John and Margaret (Lutters) Conroy. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. John was a member of the Mount Vernon Country Club, the Old Homestead Club, The Elks, Mount Vernon Rotary Club, and the Eagle Creek Golf and Country Club, Naples, Fla. He graduated from Bayside (NY) High School and City College of New York.
He was employed by the Arabian American Oil Co. (Aramco Oil Co) for 18 years, 10 years in Saudi Arabia, and 30 years with Greif, Inc (Delaware, OH) retiring in 1997 as Vice President and Secretary.
He is survived by his loving wife, Anna Mae (Ann) Downs (Belden) Conroy, to whom he had been married 18 years; one brother Ernest O. (Adrienne) Conroy of Moriches (Long Island), New York; one sister, Judith A. (Ernst) Stoecklein of Leesburg, FL.; one daughter Heather E. (Alan) Malone of Powell, Ohio; one daughter-in-law Lynn M. Conroy of Springfield, Ohio; two grandchildren Caitlin and Aaron Malone of Powell, Ohio; and sister-in-law Kathleen (Martin) Rubow Gaudian & family of Muskego, Wisconsin. Also many nieces, nephew and many special friends.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife of 41 years Geraldine (Rubow) Conroy in 1994, son Stephen G. Conroy (Lynn) in 2013, a brother George R. Conroy in 1960 and brother-in-law Ernst (Judy) Stoecklein.
He moved to Mount Vernon after his marriage to Ann in 1997, where he became active in many clubs. He and Ann traveled all over the world, 20 cruises and playing golf while in Ireland.
He is a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon and Marco Lutheran Church in Marco Island FL. He was active in numerous church activities and offices in various congregations during his lifetime. Though not a gifted singer, he enjoyed being in choirs and loved music.
Friends may call on Friday, Aug. 14th from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00PM at Lasater Funeral Home, 11337 Upper Gilchrist Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00AM at Faith Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Wildermuth officiating. Burial will be in Eastlawn Memory Gardens in Eldora, Iowa.
