Ivan H. Kay Passed Away in Austin, Texas
Ivan H. Kay, 88, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, in Austin, Texas, while visiting his family for the Christmas holidays.
Ivan was born to Leslie and Mildred Kay July 3, 1920, in Little Falls, Minn. In 1925, the family moved to Pontiac, Mich., where Ivan received his formal education. He graduated from Detroit Institute of Technology with an associate degree in business administration and accounting.
Upon leaving school, Ivan enrolled in a seaman-training facility at Hoffman Island, N.Y., and spent the next six years working as Able Seaman and Quartermaster for various steamship companies during World War II. Upon leaving the sea, he married Ruth Gayle Bergan in Larkspur, Calif., on Sept. 9, 1945. Ivan held a number of different jobs in California, Michigan and Florida until 1950, when he joined Arabian American Oil Company in Saudi Arabia as an accountant. Ivan retired from Aramco in 1972 and moved to Mountain Home, where he was a land developer for 10 years.
Ivan is survived by four children, 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of Ivan's life will be later in 2009 in Mountain Home by his extended family and friends.
