He was born on September 7, 1933 in Houston, Texas to Sophia Wadsworth Acord and Herbert Kenneth Acord. Kent grew up in Houston and graduated from Jeff Davis High School. In 1955 as a student in Austin at the University of Texas, he met and married the love of his life, Janet (Kitsie) Cleaves.
Kent graduated from the University of Texas (Austin) in 1956 with a degree in petroleum engineering. He served as a Lieutenant in the United States Corps of Engineers for two years. He attended the University of Houston and received a Master of Science in Engineering in 1961.
After pursuing multiple opportunities in the Houston oil industry, he launched his great adventure in the international oil and gas industry and moved with his family to Saudi Arabia in 1963 to work with Aramco. In 1969, he transferred to Mobil Oil Corporation where he worked for 27 years. He was General Manager for Mobil Oil Netherlands, Mobil Oil Nigeria, Mobil Oil Indonesia and ended his career as Executive Vice-President International, Mobil Oil E & P.
Kent travelled the world and loved the opportunities he enjoyed as a representative of Mobil Oil. He was blessed to have a wife who loved the adventure as much as he did and who was his greatest asset. In retirement Kent enjoyed competing in the Senior Olympics, cruising with Kitsie and friends, serving on boards and spending quality time with his grandchildren. Many summer days were spent creating memories in Colorado, at the creek and at the ranch. These memories are cherished by our family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Sophia Acord, his sister, Winnie Brower, his brother, Barry Acord and his granddaughter, Lindsay Weems. He is survived by his wife, Kitsie, his three children, Rusty (Megan St. Clair), Dinah Weems (Jeff) and Lisa Holzgrafe (Don), his grandchildren, Matthew Holzgrafe, Jeffrey Holzgrafe, Kent Bailey, Dr. Virginia Bailey, Matthew Weems, Heather Antaki, Andy St. Clair, Emily St. Clair, great-grandchildren Pierce Buratti, Karson Buratti, Jackson Weems, Brazos Weems, his brother, Dr. Tom Acord, and numerous nieces and nephews.
