Helen Louise Weeks Devenney Moore

Helen Louise Weeks Devenney Moore died on July 22, 2015, at her residence on St. Simons Island, Ga., after having lived a long and joyous life. The eldest of four children, Helen was born on Sept. 25, 1917, in Longmeadow, Mass., to Kenneth S. and Kathryn Adams Weeks. She spent her early years in Pittsfield, Mass., and was an avid skier and a member of the Mount Greylock Ski Patrol.

While working in Boston for the General Electric Company and attending Northeastern University, Helen enlisted with the American Red Cross and was an Overseas Club Director during the Occupation years. Her duties took her to Bermuda, Germany and Austria.

In 1948, Helen was hired by the Arabian American Oil Company (ARAMCO) as an executive secretary and moved to Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. There she met and married Ralph Henry Devenney, an engineer who became the Manager of Industrial Relations for the company. Their two children were born in Arabia and they spent 14 happy years there. After her husband perished in an airplane crash in 1964, Helen and the children relocated to Sarasota, Fla., to be near her mother, Kathryn. Three years later, the family moved north and made their home in Greenwich, Conn., where Helen was the first single woman invited to join the Millbrook Golf Club.

In 1975, Helen married Philip Moore of Greenwich and in 1979, they became full-time residents of Sea Island, Ga. There she enjoyed more than thirty years of golf, tennis, biking, beach walking and the fellowship of many good friends. Mr. Moore passed away in 2006, and Helen moved to Marsh's Edge on St. Simons Island.

In addition to her two husbands, Helen was predeceased by her sister, Barbara Hart; and her stepson, Michael Moore. She is survived by a son, Scott Ralph Devenney (Ann Watanabe) of Aiea, Hawaii; a daughter, Pamela Devenney (Don Peppers) of Sea Island, Ga.; a stepdaughter, Molly Moore McCormick of Jupiter, Fla.; seven grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; as well as a sister, Dorothy Lutts of Pittsfield; and a brother, Kenneth Weeks (Peg) of Darien, Conn.

The family would like to thank Hospice of the Golden Isles and our wonderful nurse, Maureen Rossell. We are indebted to Helen's cadre of devoted caregivers over the years: Margie Harris, Debra Partridge, Stephanie Dallas, Lorraine Jackson, Renée Bennett, Lena Mitchell, Angela Thomas and especially Ms. Tracy Hutcherson. Their love and support have made all the difference.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, Sept. 4 at 3 p.m. at Christ Church Frederica on St. Simons Island. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the STAR Foundation, 1907 Gloucester St., Brunswick, GA 31520.

Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
