Florence Mary Groeschel Strang

Florence Mary Groeschel Strang, 91, died peacefully at her home at Eddy Beechwood, Troy, on Wednesday, March 23, 2022.

Born in Brooklyn, on October 10, 1930, she was the daughter of the late William and Maude Oke Groeschel, and the beloved wife of the late Roger P. Strang. They were married 50 years before his passing in 2002. She was predeceased by her brother, Richard C. Groeschel.

Florence is survived by her son William P. (Stephanie Smith) of Bethesda, MD, her daughter, Elizabeth G. Crockett (Peter) of Fabius, NY, and her son, John R. (Karen) of Troy, NY; her brother, William Groeschel (Judy) of Houston, TX; two grandchildren,

Corinne DiDonato of East Greenbush, NY and Robert Strang (Remy) of Delmar, NY; great grandson, Damian DiDonato and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Florence grew up in Brooklyn, and met Roger (RPI Class of 1951) while attending Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing, Troy (1951). Florence later earned a bachelor's degree in Psychology from Russell Sage College in 1977.

Roger and Florence were married in 1952 in Stockholm, Sweden before living in Saudi Arabia where Roger worked for Aramco. In 1955 they returned to the States and lived in Valley Falls, NY (1956 – 1980) before moving to Center Brunswick until Florence moved to Eddy Beechwood in 2018.

Florence worked as an RN at Samaritan Hospital, and on the staff of the Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing, In time she took on the roles of recruitment officer and financial aid officer for the School of Nursing, retiring in 1993.

Florence was a parishioner of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Troy where she served on the

Property Committee and as Junior and Senior Warden to the Church.

A memorial service will take place Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 1:00 PM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 58 3rd Street, Troy, followed immediately by a reception for family and friends at the Hilton Garden Inn, 235 Hoosick Street, Troy. Entombment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Troy at the convenience of the family.

The family wishes to extend our deepest gratitude and appreciation to her dedicated friends/aides, Beth Anthony and Jayne Tarbox, who helped Florence maintain her independence in recent years.
