F. M. Long
A Tribute to F.M. Long By Walt Perryman
F.M. Long
June 19, 1939 - May 2, 2012
What do these dates really mean,
Not much it is how he lived the dash in between.
F.M. grew up in a big family, 7 girls and 6 boys,
They grew up poor and did not have many toys.
F.M. left home at 16 just trying to stay alive,
He went to work in the oilfield to survive.
He worked hard trying to get on with his life,
Then God gave him sissy for a wife.
F.M. and I became friend's about 40 years ago.
We were in Saudi Arabia working for Aramco.
He was a man of stature and stood out in a crowd,
I have never seen him pick a fight or get very loud.
F.M believed in God, this I truly know,
Because, in the Deserts of Saudi Arabia, he told me so.
The Bible says there is life after death and I believe this to be.
Therefore F.M. is not gone he is waiting for you and me.
Lord, please tell F.M. that someday we also will die,
And we will join him in your oilfield, way up in the sky.
So, if you hear thunder in the sky later on tonight,
It's a sign F.M. made it and God's rotary table is turning to the right

A tribute to F.M. Long by Walt Perryman. "Walt was a Workover Drilling Foreman. F.M., and his brother Sammy, were Workover Foreman out of Abqaiq. They worked for Aramco a long time. They were 28/28 and then Sammy changed to 14/7 later. They were both just nice, good old boys out of West Texas." ~Sheila Stevens
