Eugene L. Baker
Eugene L. Baker, 82, of Loyalsock Township, died April 1, 2010, at the Gatehouse following a two-year decline in health.
He was born Nov. 14, 1927, in West Milton. He married Nancy J. Wilson in 1952.
A graduate of Milton High School in 1945, he served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and later graduated from Bucknell University with a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering. He received several academic awards during his university years, including Pi Eta Sigma (freshman honors), Pi Mu Epsilon (math honors) and Tau Beta Pi (engineering honors).
He was a member of the American Legion.
In 1954 he accepted a position with Arabian American Oil Company in Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia. He and his wife lived in Saudi Arabia during the 1950s. He retired from Pullman Power Products as plant manager in 1985 and received special recognition for his participation in the recovery efforts for Three Mile Island Nuclear Power Plant.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two daughters, Leigh Ann Baker and Mindy Chidester; a son-in-law, Brian Chidester; and three grandchildren, Brian, Casey and Julie Ann.
Visitors will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Dale E. Ranck Funeral Service, 125 N. Front St, Milton, where a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Douglas J. Seagle officiating. Private interment will be held at Lewisburg Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Gatehouse inpatient hospice unit at Divine Providence Hospital, 1100 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, Pa. 17701.
