Dr. William L. Hostetler II
Dr. William Lewis Hostetler II, 74, of Amherst died Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Runk & Pratt Forest Memory Care Center in Lynchburg, VA. Born March 26, 1939, in Charleston, WV, he was the son of the late William Lewis Hostetler and the late Myrtle Hostetler Stroupe. He was the husband of the late Mary Ann Long Hostetler.
Bill received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Duke University in NC, and his M.B.A. and Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill.
Bill was a CPA, licensed in North Carolina since 1964. He taught at the University of Kansas as an Assistant Professor of Business from 1966 - 1967, prior to joining the Arabian American Oil Co. in Saudi Arabia, where he worked from 1967 - 1989. He joined the faculty of Sweet Briar College in Amherst, VA, as an Associate Professor of Economics in 1989, received tenure in 1992, and retired in 2006. Bill received the Student Government Association's Excellence in Teaching Award in 1994.
He took a year-long sabbatical during the 1996 - 1997 academic years to complete a book entitled: Saudi Arabia: Unique Insight into Economic Development.
While working for Aramco, he met his wife, Mary Ann Long Hostetler. They were married in 1975.
Bill is survived by numerous loving cousins: Joan Leslie and Larry Bissett (Morgantown, WV); Mary Ann Lenehan (North Caldwell, NJ) Richard G. Henneberry (Passaic, NJ); Patricia and David Penque (Upper Saddle River, NJ); Lori and Ken Lunde (Dallas, TX); Dennis and Alexandra Lenehan (Los Altos Hills, CA) Arthur Lenehan (North Caldwell, NJ) Sherry Lenehan (North Caldwell, NJ); and Daniel and Mary Lenehan (Los Altos Hills, CA).

A service to celebrate Bill's life will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 10, 2013, at the Sweet Briar College Chapel with former SBC Chaplain Adam White officiating. Inurnment will follow at Sweet Briar College in Amherst at a later date.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Whitten Monelison Chapel in Madison Heights.
