Dr. Anthony Paul Martins
Dr. Anthony Paul Martins, died peacefully at his home in Fort Lee, New Jersey on July 8, 2015 at the age of 87. He is survived by his children Mark and his wife Andrea, Paul and his wife Teresa, Cindy and her husband Eric King, Michael and his wife Amy Cox-Martins, and John and his wife Yasuyo, and his grandchildren, Christin, Jessica, Justin, Dane, Skyler, Michael, Maxx, Declan, Brendan, Sabrina, Marcus, Isis and Anton, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his loving wife of 53 years, Victorine Skelley Martins, and his five brothers and sisters. Raised in Goa, India, he was born on September 8, 1927 in Calcutta to Michael and Matilda Martins. He graduated from Bombay Medical School in 1955, and worked as a physician for Aramco Oil Company in Saudi Arabia beginning in 1956. It was in Saudi Arabia that he met his wife, Vicky who was also working for Aramco as a nurse. In 1965, they moved to Fort Lee, New Jersey, where they spent the rest of their lives and raised their family. As a pediatrician for over 25 years at Hackensack Hospital, he was one of the founders of their children's hospital and one of the first Indian physicians on staff. He maintained a private medical practice during that time with Dr. William E. Williams in Rutherford. He also served as a physician for the Fort Lee Department of Health from 1980 to 1997. He was a parishioner at Madonna Church and a member of the Fort Lee Athletic Club. Funeral Saturday 10 AM from the Hunt-Stellato Funeral Home, 1601 Palisade Avenue, Fort Lee.
