Calvin Lyle Ham
Calvin Lyle Ham was born in Savanna, Illinois, July 20, 1921, son of Ivan Agee Ham and Millie Davis Ham, descendants of pioneers who came to Pike and Brown Counties, Illinois, in 1830 and earlier. He passed away on November, 23, 2009. He was a resident of Austin, TX.
He was a 1939 graduate of Savanna Township High School, after which he was employed by the First National Bank of Savanna and at the Savanna Ordnance Depot until enlistment in the Coast Guard, where his service (October 1942 to March 1946) included that of Radio Operator on the U.S.S. Planetree in the Pacific Theatre of Operations.
He was a Class of 1949 graduate of the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service.
From 1952 to 1981 Calvin was an employee of the Arabian American Oil Company (now the Saudi Arabian Oil Co.) in Dhahran, Abqaiq, Riyadh and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in Community Development, Human Resources and Government Relations positions.
He retired to Austin in 1981. His interests included travel (over 50 countries and most of the States), photography, malacology, philately and, particularly, genealogy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister and brother and, in Austin, cousins Aldeen Evans Anderson and Lola Evans Ham.
Calvin is survived by his dear sister, Cleo (and Leroy) Owen of Olmstead Township, Ohio; nephews, William L. Owen of Tigard, Oregon and Robert S. Owen of Texarkana, Texas; nieces, Susan Owen Tollison (and David) of Williamston, South Carolina and Lisa Owen Radosavljevic (and Rudy) of Brunswick, Ohio; great nephews and nieces, Troy Lee Tollison of Williamston, S.C., Patricia and David Owen (and their mother, Margaret Granger Owen) of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania and Matthew and Christa Radosavljevic of Brunswick, Ohio; and special cousin Wendy Mancini of Chicago, Illinois.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 28th at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home.
Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park, North Olmstead, Ohio.
