Boyce Wayne Wood

Boyce went to be with the Lord surrounded by family and loved ones in Carrollton, Texas on July 31, 2015. Boyce was born on July 13, 1926 in Seymour, Texas. He attended Vera High School in Knox County, Texas. Before joining the armed services, Boyce enjoyed working on his family farm.

He joined the United States Army on November 27, 1944. He served in France, Germany and Austria with the 222nd Regiment of the 42nd Infantry Division. His service included duty in the European Occupation Forces. For his service, he was awarded the Victory Medal. On February 8, 1946, Boyce was honorably discharged from the United States Army.

Following his service to his country, Boyce was employed by ARAMCO and spent time in Saudi Arabia and Venezuela. During this time he met Peggy Joyce Hipp.  He told everyone he met that she was the prettiest woman he had ever seen. They fell in love and were married on June 11, 1956 in Temple, Texas. Boyce and Peggy were blessed with three children. He enjoyed his children more than anything in life other than his beloved Peggy. In 47 years of marriage to Peggy they never once spent a night apart. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.

Boyce and Peggy settled in Kermit, Texas in 1967. During his residency in Kermit, Boyce was employed by Oilwell Supply, a division of U.S. Steel. He retired in 1986. He never missed a single day of work. Boyce was a "scratch" golfer. He gained a reputation at the Winkler County Country Club as an Ace golfer. He enjoyed watching every type of sporting event in person or on television. He was renowned for his uncanny proficiency and success in his weekly picks for the Winkler County News Pick of the Week. He often either took home first place or a close second in the Weekly Picks. He was a Christian believer and was always eager to discuss political or religious issues. He was an excellent debater of both subjects. All who met him enjoyed his company and his hard earned friendship.

He was predeceased by his wife: Peggy; son: Gary; his mother and father and several sisters and brothers.

He is survived by daughter: Patty O'Brien and her husband, and family, son: Robert Wood and his wife, and family, sister: Neva Carrigan and husband Harold, and brother: M.L. Wood and wife Doris.
