Abu Shal had previously been appointed the CEO of Sadara last fall.
Yahya A. Abu Shal was appointed as a senior vice president, effective Jan. 1, 2023. Abu Shal had previously been appointed the CEO of Sadara on Nov. 3, 2022.
Previously, he was the general manager of the Jazan Complex from January 2021 to Nov. 2, 2022.
Prior to that, Abu Shal held the position of general manager, Jazan Area Project Management, between September 2018 and December 2020.
He has served in several leadership positions, including as the assistant to the vice president of Engineering Services, manager of the Consulting Services Department, manager of the Inspection Department, and manager of the Facilities Planning Department.
Abu Shal was the manager for both the Jiddah and Yanbu’ refineries between January 2013 and September 2015, and acting general manager for the Ras Tanura Refinery between October 2017 and March 2018.
He led the construction of several mega- and giga-projects, including the Jazan Refinery Complex between September 2018 and December 2020, and the SATORP refinery between July 2009 and October 2012.
Abu Shal holds a B.S. degree and an M.S. degree in electrical engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, received in September 1990 and January 1995, respectively.
He also obtained an MBA at the Open University of Malaysia in 2009.
Abu Shal has attended several management programs and leadership forums, such as the Asia Business Culture and the Saudi Aramco Management Development seminars, in both Washington, D.C., and New York.
He served as a Board member in the Saudi Aramco Mobile Refinery Company (SAMREF) and S-Oil.
Also, Abu Shal was the chairman of the Maharat Institute for Development of Construction Taskforce, and served on the Board of Trustees for the Inspection Technology and Quality Assurance National Institute (ITQAN).
