What is a go-bag?
A go-bag is a term that refers to a bag packed with essentials you would want to have with you if you have to depart quickly.
What is in your go bag?
- Three-day supply of food, water, snacks, energy bars
- Medical items: medical records, immunization records, OTC meds, prescription meds
- Documents : Passports (make sure they are valid), birth certificates, marriage certificates, power of attorneys, house titles, driver’s license, etc.
- Cash – how much cash? What currency?
- Checkbook
- ATM card, credit card
- Safe Deposit box keys
- Clothing – be ready for all elements
- Personal documents – photo albums, book, iPad, cards, computer, external hardrive
- Toiletries – soap, shampoo, toothbrush, etc.
- First aid kit
- Cell phone and charger
- Radio
- Flashlight and batteries
Go Bags for Children
- Everyone needs a go bag
- Go Bags should include clothing (for all elements) diapers, food snacks, medicine
- Toys, books, favorite blanket
Pets
- Best time to send pets home is before an emergency – may not be permitted on commercial airlines
- Know the exit requirements for pets before an emergency
- Keep vaccination records with personal documents
- Have a plan of who/where you could send a pet ahead of your travel – kennel, relatives, friends
