As the years of silence and restrictions caused by the pandemic have come to an end, Abqaiq Community’s bowling alley roars again!
The Abqaiq City Bowling Association (ACBA) organized the “Southern Area Oil Operations (SAOO) Vice President’s Cup – Team Invitational” event with a theme: “Bowling for Teamwork” on Aug. 12, 2022. The event brought an atmosphere of fun and joy by resonating its sound through the rumbling of pins and balls.
The event was attended by bowlers from Abqaiq, Ras Tanura (RT), Dhahran, and ‘Udhailiyah.
The ACBA and its Board members dedicated their time to make this event a success and meet their objectives of promoting the spirit of teamwork.
First, Keshab Baruah, the ACBA vice president, welcomed the participants with welcoming comments on the value of teamwork, along with a reminder on safety while bowling.
The Champion Team - Joselito Tugano, Medhat Elaily, Loida Tabas, and Darwin Javier.
To focus on the teamwork effort, the tournament had a mixed team composition of players from each area, divided into two divisions (A & B). Division A consisted of four bowlers, and Division B consisted of three bowlers. There were 10 teams for Group A and eight teams for Group B. Initially, the players were grouped according to their individual composite average. Then each team battled it out against the others based on the cumulative total pin falls plus handicap after the third set of two games, cheered on by spectators, mainly composed of families and friends.
Fahad A. Al Amri, coordinator of SAOO Business Support, conveyed the message of SAOO management, emphasizing that through this kind of event in the community, teamwork will lead to the success of developing friendship and closeness among all. He said, “The way to achieve your own success is to be willing to help somebody else get it first.”
Abqaiq Bowling Association’s SAOO Vice President’s Cup proved a popular pull after its pause during covid restrictions.
Also, RTBA president Monci Regondon expressed his gratitude for a well-organized event and congratulated everyone for showing teamwork. Participants enthusiastically interacted, bonding with bowlers from other areas in a friendly competition where cheers, laughter, and joy were shared. Regondon thanked the ACBA board for their effort and invited Abqaiq for another friendly event in RT by October.
Tournament director, Marvin Oanes, presented the awards to the winners.
Nestor Villaruel, ACBA president, congratulated the winners and expressed his gratitude to all who participated on this event. “It was another great experience learned not only in terms of bowling, but also for a community that shares and believes in the spirit of teamwork.”
