The recognition is given only to those whose technology development and knowledge dissemination contributions over a long career have significantly impacted the industry.
Qiwei Wang and Yazeed A. Al Dukhayyil pose at the 2023 Honoree Night in Denver, Colorado, earlier this year.
In March of this year, the Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) elected Qiwei Wang as a Fellow for his distinguished contributions in technology development and significant role in knowledge dissemination.
The AMPP, with more than 40,000 members from over 130 countries, represents the global community of the protection of assets and the performance of industrial and natural materials.
The Fellow Honor is only given to recipients who have made exemplary contributions to an entire body of technical or scientific knowledge in their field over a long career. The award is reserved only for those whose achievements and contributions have made a broad impact to the industry.
Those awarded this honor go on to serve as leaders and advisors to the AMPP, assisting with mentoring new and upcoming talent and contributing to activities in their field, which contribute to societal progress.
Another Accolade
Wang, a research science consultant in our Research and Analytical Services Department (RASD), is no stranger to accolades.
In 2021, Wang was awarded the NACE International Technical Achievement Award for his sustained and outstanding contributions in oil field scale management. It is an award reserved for those who have made impactful technical achievements in corrosion engineering and corrosion control.
In 2022, he was appointed by Elsevier, one of the largest publishers specializing in scientific and technical content, as editor of the “Oil and Gas Chemistry Management” book series, to cover all major chemistry related issues and chemical solutions in the energy industry. This effort resulted in a 4-book volume series.
A Career Built On Research and Knowledge Sharing
After receiving his Ph.D. in oceanography from Texas A&M University, Wang dedicated nearly three decades to research, new technology development, and providing novel solutions for the oil and gas industry.
Since joining Aramco in 2011, he has been instrumental in all major mitigation activities in companywide operations, led the completion of more than 130 projects, and provided numerous impactful technical consultations for various organizations across upstream, downstream, engineering, and research.
Wang has organized workshops, served on technical committees, and chaired many symposia. Over his career, he has completed over 280 projects, was granted 37 U.S. patents, and authored and coauthored 190 publications.
A Well-earned Honor
Abbas S. Al Ghamdi, acting director of RASD, said, “We are very proud of Dr. Wang’s AMPP Fellow Honor Award.”
“His well-deserved recognition from a prestigious organization as AMPP is another testimony of RASD’s technical leadership and how we as an organization make an impact to Aramco, in particular, and the oil and gas Industry at large.”

Wang has helped develop viable technical solutions that contribute to both substantial savings and cost avoidance. His contribution to new technology development solves high impact and challenging technical issues, such as downhole scale deposition in high temperature gas wells and solid accumulation in electric submersible pump systems.
Yazeed A. Al Dukhayyil, manager of Aramco’s Chemicals and Process Analysis Division, said: “This global award is the result of Qiwei’s sustained and significant contributions to the oil and gas industry as a whole, and more specifically, with his contributions to oil scale management and chemical solutions for the energy industry. What I appreciate most about Qiwei, is his passion to deliver knowledge. He has effective mentorship skills, serves on technical committees, organizes various workshops, and his publications provide guidance to solve challenges in the oil and gas industry. Having Qiwei Wang as part of our team has motivated and inspired not just those who work at Aramco, but the entire profession.”
