Loss Prevention experts focus on theme of “Leadership, Sustainability, Technology.”
“Leadership, sustainability, and technology. These three elements make up the very foundation of any organization in terms of delivering on its Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) commitments,” said Ghassan G. Abulfaraj, chief Loss Prevention engineer, in his keynote address at the recent International Conference and Exhibition on Health, Safety and Environment in Oman.
More than 2,400 attendees from 25 countries – including a number of Aramco’s Loss Prevention personnel and subject matter experts -- shared discussions, thoughts, and insights related to the event’s theme “Leadership, Sustainability, Technology.” Panel topics ranged from organizational resilience to reliability to road safety.

Zaher M. Al Tayeb, head of LP’s Global Safety Assessment and Compliance Division, led a technical session focused on contractor HSE management, while further sessions expanded on a wide range of topics, including the value of biodiversity, carbon reduction and climate change, asset integrity, and HSE digitalization.
During the health performance management session, Abdulrahman K. Al-Jaafari, supervisor Environmental Health Unit, took the stage alongside Hassan M. Alzain, chartered environmental health practitioner of the Green Energy and Environmental Policy Department, while Abdulrahman I. Alamer, an LP engineer, provided insight into Aramco’s position on digitalization and its role within the HSE space.
Alamer highlighted that digital transformation is expected to change the manner in which individuals live, work, and communicate, adding that technologies and data systems are already affecting the way Aramco does business, and will continue to play an influential role in costs, productivity, and profitability.
As part of the company’s ongoing drive toward further improving its HSE performance, he noted that digital solutions were already having a profound impact through technologies such as the SafeTravel journey management application, the SafeLife solution, as well as other automated hazard controls.
Beyond the Technical
LP’s exposure was not limited only to technical content, with LP engineer Najla A. Binmahfoodh speaking of her experiences as a female engineer in an open discussion forum titled “Benefits of a Gender Diverse Workforce.”
This forum highlighted how improving gender diversity in the workplace can enhance an organization’s collaboration and productivity, as well as the importance of leadership in helping fulfill this commitment.
“The importance of a supportive management in creating a positive work culture, managing expectations, and setting the tone for how employees interact is a key interface in this area,” said Binmahfoodh.
“Effective and visible leadership is an influential building block in achieving success. Therefore, developing and nurturing high quality leaders will shape our future, and in turn our ability to navigate through turbulent times.”

The Aramco exhibit was a hive of activity for visitors and attendees
In addition to panels and discussions, Aramco also hosted an exhibition booth that received positive praise and interest due to the wide range of items on display. This included virtual reality training programs such as Hazard Recognition, the company’s patented female flame-resistant clothing, and its award-winning safety publication Saudi Aramco and the Art of Safety.
In his closing remarks, Abulfaraj underlined the value of this event and Aramco’s place at the table. “Through sharing experiences at gatherings such as these, we move the needle in terms of ensuring the future of our businesses, the next generation, and our planet.”
