William Laney Littlejohn
William Laney Littlejohn of Houston, TX passed away August 4, 2016 of long term illness. Laney was born in Starkville, Mississippi, August 8, 1941, to William Wylie and Mary Ruth Littlejohn.
After graduating valedictorian from Starkville High School, he received a BA in Mathematics from Rice University and did his post graduate studies in Economics at Mississippi State University and Rice University.
He was married to Mary Ann Littlejohn for 56 years. He is also survived by son Thomas Edward Littlejohn of New Orleans, LA; daughter, Linda Marie Dunn of Houston, TX; and granddaughter, Lauren Ashley Dunn.
Laney taught Economics at University of Missouri and Illinois State University. Beginning in 1972, he spent his professional career with Saudi Aramco in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia where he worked in Corporate Planning, evaluating capital projects and oil pricing. While in Arabia, he enjoyed world travel and golf, serving as President of Rolling Hills Country Club for a time.
He loved being a part of Saudi Arabia’s modernization and treasured his many enduring friendships with his Saudi colleagues.
After retiring to Houston, he was active in the West University Rotary Club and Houston Philosophical Society. He also enjoyed his favorite pastimes of fishing, supporting Rice Owls Baseball, patronizing the city’s rich classical music scene, and relaxing with a good book or the New York Times crossword puzzle.
