William Jordan 'Bill' Smith

William Jordan "Bill" Smith, 68, of Carmel, In., formerly of Indiana, Pa. passed away at his home on Tuesday, July 2, 2013.

He was born to the late William Clark and Virginia May Smith, Mar. 1, 1945, in Indiana, Pa. Bill graduated from Indiana Area High School in 1964 and received a master endorsement as a certified engineer from the NARTE. He married Hatsuko Kinjo Smith on May 29, 1967 in Okinawa, Japan.

Bill was a director of Civil Defense before working in Saudi Arabia for Aramco. He served our nation through his employment with the State Department, Foreign Services and as a diplomat traveling with the Secretary of State. Bill settled in Chicago, then Indiana, and worked for Motorola International, SpectraSite Communications, Inc., and Tyco before retiring in May 2012.

Bill has loved the Amateur Radio Club since his enrollment in 1962. He was a member of the American Legion PUFL, VFW Auxiliary and the Zion Lutheran Church. He spent his leisure time with Ham radios and HO trains. He traveled with his wife throughout the Eastern and Western Hemisphere. They visited their parents in Pennsylvania and Okinawa annually.

Bill is survived by his wife, Hatsuko; son, William; brother, Dennis; sister, Susan; and beloved dog, Kudo.

A private memorial service will be held in Indiana, PA at the Greenwood Cemetery.
