William Henry Homer III
William Henry Homer III, known as Bill Home, age 80 of Sarasota Florida passed away on Sunday June 10, 2012 at his daughter Kathleen's home in historic Roswell Georgia.
An avid traveler, William worked as a financial advisor for the Anaconda Copper Company in Antofagasta Chili, for the Shah of Iran on the Dez dam located in the Northwestern province of Khuzestan of Iran, ending his career in finance for the Arabian American oil company in Dhahran Saudi Arabia.
In Arabia, William enjoyed desert explorations with his family, dune sliding and barbeques on the shores of the Arabian Gulf. He enjoyed soft ball, bowling and his great love, his tenure with the Dhahran volunteer fire department. His training at Texas A&M Fire School allowed him to be promoted to chief of the Volunteer units, units that were instrumental in quenching the infamous Abqaiq refinery fire of 1977.
William's love of his native land never dimmed, evident in his work with American service personnel in Dhahran during the 1991 Gulf War. William and his wife Jean retired from Aramco in 1993.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Jean; daughters, Kathleen P. Homer and Elizabeth C. Homer; brother, Brian Homer; and sisters Marilyn Loveland and Michelle Gordin.
