Virginia L. Oldham
Virginia L. Oldham was born August 10, 1924. She passed away on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at a care facility in Abilene, Texas.
Virginia grew up in Winters, Texas and started her business career at the Dallas Federal Reserve Bank in Dallas, Texas. While living in Dallas, she met and married Gip D. Oldham, Jr. in 1948. She was deeply committed to Gip and the couple had an interesting and exciting life together. In 1951 he returned to his love of flying. The couple moved to the Middle East to follow his career. Gip and Virginia lived in Saudi Arabia for 17 years, where Gip was a pilot for ARAMCO. Their lives included experiences and encounters with dignitaries and royalty, including King Hussein of Jordan, and Kings Sa'ud and Faisal of Saudi Arabia. Gip and Virginia Oldham's lives were truly bound together as one. It is hard to imagine one without the other.
Gip and Virginia retired to Dallas and lived there for more than 30 years before moving to Abilene in 2009. They moved back to Abilene to be close to long-time friends that included H.V. (Chuck) Chapman of Abilene. Mr. Gip Oldham preceded Virginia Oldham in death on December 24, 2010.
Virginia has always been known for her caring spirit, warm hospitality and genuine concern for others. Together they had a deep love for Hardin-Simmons University and established numerous endowments to support the university's mission of higher education and the students served by the institution. Both had a heart for students. Special thanks are extended to caring hands and hearts of the medical care professionals who ministered to the health needs of Virginia Oldham in her final days. That includes Windcrest Healthcare Center and Hendrick Hospice.
