Tommie Mike Arlt

Tommie Mike Arlt, age 75, went to be with his Lord, on Saturday, April 20, 2024 after a lengthy illness. He was born in Wharton, Texas to Oma Strunk Arlt and Tommy Arlt on July 4, 1948. He grew up in Lissie and went to East Bernard High School. After graduation, he attended Wharton County Junior College and graduated from Sam Houston State University in 1971 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. While there, he also performed in numerous theatre productions and learned technical theatre skills. He worked for Aramco as an expediter for several years, 7 of which were in Dharan, Saudia Arabia. There, he also acted in the community theatre and served as a technical theatre expert. His character of note that all will remember was his portrayal of Jud Fry in Oklahoma, while his wife, Melissa played Aunt Eller.

He retired from Martin Asphalt about 5 years ago as the plant manager. He resided in Humble for most of his adult life since 1988. He has been a resident of East Bernard since August, 2024.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Melissa Suzanne Alderson Arlt, and his brother-in-law, Anthony Hlavinka. He is survived by his sister, Phyllis Hlavinka of East Bernard, and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mike and Linda Alderson, of Louise. He is survived by 5 nephews, Brian Hlavinka (Janie), Steven Hlavinka (Lindsey), Thomas Hlavinka (Carrie), Scott Alderson (Adriel), Skeet Alderson (Lisha) and one niece, Amy Alderson Simms (Tracy). He is also survived by numerous great-nephews and great-nieces as well as several great-great nieces and nephews.

Mike enjoyed reading, music, eating good food, seeing new places, and most of all, camping in his RV. He was always ready to go on a camping trip at a moment’s notice. He was particularly fond of all the trips he and Missy took while in Saudia Arabia and the many camping trips to west Texas. He enjoyed spending time with his extended family in East Bernard and in Louise. He was a member of the Crossroads Emmaus Community and the Ganado Grace Journey community.

A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, April 29, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Grace Fellowship on the Boling Highway in Wharton. Skeet Alderson will preside at the service with music provided by Steven and Lindsey Hlavinka. Memorial gifts may be made to the donor’s choice.
