Sammy L. Gueringer Passed Away

Sammy L. Gueringer, 72, of Reids community entered eternal rest on Thursday, December 18, 2008 in his residence with his family near his side.

Sam was born on April 13, 1946 to the late John Lawrence Gueringer and Eleanor Elizabeth Earl Gueringer in Oakdale. He graduated from Oakdale High in 1954 and from Louisiana Tech in Ruston in 1960. He was a Chemical Engineer with Aramco for over 14 years. He worked in Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Chad, Algeria, Holland and the USA. He was an active member of the Catholic Church, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Those who knew Sam best would describe him as a devoted family man who loved his wife, children and grandchildren. Over the years, Sam's love grew for his church family and his gracious God.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, John Lawrence "Pudge" Gueringer, Jr. and Earl Leonard Gueringer and two sisters, Nona Lee Gueringer Primm and Doris Elaine Gueringer Atkinson.

Those left to mourn his loss and cherish his memory are his loving wife of forty-seven years, Willie Frances Calhoun Gueringer of Reids community; two sons, Brian Keith Gueringer and his wife, Deborah of Oakdale and John Ross Gueringer and his wife, Sage of Minneapolis, Minnesota; one daughter, Samantha Elizabeth Gueringer of Reids community; six grandchildren, Sammy Louis Gueringer II, Lauren Elle Gueringer of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jacob Keith Gueringer of Oakdale, Missy Elizabeth Abrusley, Joe Christopher Samuel Abrusley and Nina Frances Abrusley, of the Reids community; two sisters, Elizabeth G. Heard of Lake Jackson, Texas and Judith G. Moon of Lafayette; one brother, Billy Thomas Gueringer of Hebert, Louisiana and many loving nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers honored to serve are Dan Lavergne, Herbert McGee, Joel Davis, Greg Pritchard, Tommy Sinclair and Jacob Gueringer.

Funeral services for Mr. Sammy L. Gueringer will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 22, 2008 in the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Oberlin with Father Michael Barras officiating. Services are under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Oakdale.

Friends may call at Rush Funeral Home, Oakdale - Downtown location on Sunday, December 21, 2008 from 12 p.m. until 9 p.m. and on Monday, December 22, 2008 from 9 a.m. until departure for church at 10:30 a.m.

A rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. Sam's family requests that those wishing to make memorial gifts please direct them to the Fairview High School Library Fund, P. O. Box 216, Grant, LA 70644.
