Robert W. Farney, age 68, Joplin, Mo. passed away at 8:15 p.m. on July 24, 2007 at St. John’s Hospital. He was born September 24, 1938 in Joplin, Mo. at St. John’s Hospital to Robert Earl and Maxine R. (Jewell) Farney. He graduated from Joplin High School in 1955 and the University of Missouri at Rolla in 1965 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked for the Department of the Interior at Bonneville Power Administration in Portland, Oregon and the Tennessee Valley Authority in Knoxville, Tenn. He worked overseas at Aramco (Arabian-American Oil Company) in Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia. He was a master craftsman and financial planner. He was an avid reader and enjoyed country music.

Robert married Glendoris Huffman on July 3, 1959 in Carterville, Mo., she survives. Additional survivors include his mother, Maxine R. Smith of Joplin; one son, Robert W. Farney and wife Michiru of Portland ,Or.; three daughters, Brenda Hicks and husband Ron of Joplin, Kathy Farruggia and husband Phil of Edgerton, Ks., and Yvette Melber and husband Derek of Phoenix, Az. Seven grandchildren, Talbot Gandara, Taylor Hicks, Sarah Hicks, Alyssa Farney, Nicolas Farney, Alexa Melber and Ashelley Melber; one sister, Nancy Abbott of Kansas City, Mo; four nephews, Paul, John, Eric and Mark Abbott, and a cousin and friend, John Norman of Chicago, Il. He was preceded in death by his father Robert E. Farney.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Chapel. Reverend Rex Scoles, officiating. Robert will be entombed at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his son, three daughters and grandsons; Robert, Brenda, Kathy, Yvette, Talbot and Taylor.
