Robert Stephens Luttrell
Robert "Bob" Stephens Luttrell, 82, of Martinsville, Va., died Friday, September 25, 2015, at Kings Grant. He was born June 25, 1933, in Bristol, Va., to the late Robert Wayne Luttrell and Maude Dee Stephens Luttrell.
Bob had been a resident of Martinsville, Va. since moving from Lake Wylie, S.C., in 2006. He was a graduate of Bristol Tennessee High School, class of 1951. He was a graduate of Virginia Tech, where he received a bachelor's (1955) and master's (1956) degrees in chemical engineering. Mr. Luttrell attended Harvard Business School AMP 75 in 1977.
While at Virginia Tech, he was in the Corps of Cadets and was Captain of the H Company. He played football (Academic All-American 1954) and was a member of the German Club. Bob worked for Aramco in Saudi Arabia for 30 years retiring as Vice-President.
Mr. Luttrell was a member of the Starling Avenue Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving active/reserves from 1958 to 1964. Bob loved spending time with his family, traveling, community volunteering and being a Virginia Tech Hokie fan.
On December 21, 1957, he married Ora Merlow Donavant, who survives him. He is also survived by his sister, Martha Luttrell Dean of Fort Myers, Fla.; three daughters, Robin Jean Luttrell of Atlanta, Ga., Marlisa Dee Luttrell Grady and son-in-law, Blasé Grady, of Atlanta, Ga., Katherine Mae Luttrell Sumner and son-in-law, Clay Sumner, of Evergreen, Colo.; one son, Robert Donavant Luttrell and daughter-in-law, Christy Partlow Luttrell, of Atlanta, Ga.; and seven grandchildren, Madison Elizabeth Grady, Ryan Haslam Grady, Bailey Stephens Grady, William Hatton Sumner, Robert Benjamin Sumner, Ella Lea Luttrell and Kyle Robert Luttrell.
Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 30, 2015, at the King's Grant Victory Chapel in Martinsville, Va., with Chaplain Paul Johnson officiating. Burial will be private.
