Robert Charles Bever
Robert Charles Bever passed away Monday, December 31, 2018 at the age of 72 after a short battle with brain cancer.
Bob was born the second of four sons to Lawrence and Georgine Bever in Michigan City, Indiana. He spent much of his childhood in Marion, IN where he was active in multiple sports and activities and earned the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. He graduated from Marion High School and enrolled that fall at Purdue University, earning a B.S. in Engineering Science, whereupon he went to work for the Aerospace Systems Division of RCA Corporation in Burlington, Massachusetts working on a variety of space and defense related projects. Concurrently with his work at RCA, he attended Northeastern University and earned a M.S. in Mathematics. He returned to Purdue University to continue his graduate studies and earned a Ph.D. in Economics.
After completing his Ph.D. at Purdue, Bob moved to Concord, California where he worked as an economist for Standard Oil Corporation. He later moved to Arlington, Texas for a similar position with Texas Oil and Gas Corporation. Bob’s career took him to the Middle East where he spent approximately 17 years performing business analysis, strategy and long-range planning for the Bahrain Oil and Gas Company and the Saudi Arabian Oil Company until his retirement in 2007. While living in the Middle East, Bob also enjoyed learning about different country cultures and history by traveling throughout Africa, Europe and Asia.
Upon retirement, Bob returned to Flower Mound, TX where he pursued his hobbies of golf, teaching and playing bridge, and following sports, including his beloved Boilermakers. He also loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. Bob ultimately earned his Bronze Bridge Life Master and achieved his sailing certification.
In April 2018 Bob married Carey Cole and soon thereafter they moved to Boerne, TX where he resided until his passing.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his son Daniel Bever; and brother Thomas Bever. He is survived by his wife, Carey Cole; his four children Greg Bever of Los Angeles, CA, Gretchen Davis of Keller, TX, Patrick Bever of O’Fallon, IL and Amanda Gonzalez of Burleson, TX; six grand-children; two great grand-children; and two brothers, John Bever of Southgate, KY, and Don Bever of Raleigh, NC.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 26, 2019 at St. Laurence Church in Southlake, TX at 2 p.m. with a reception following the service.
