Richard G. Solomon
Richard G. "Rick" Solomon departed loving friends and family on Tuesday, August 9, 2011.
He was born in Farmington, NM February 14, 1950 to Robert and Margaret Solomon, moving near Akron on the eastern plains of Colorado and on to Windsor, CO where he graduated from Windsor High School in 1968.
His early years were characterized by adversity overcome by his inherent sense of duty, honor and adventure to achieve a life of success and good reputation.
After serving in the U.S. Marines, he discovered as a roughneck his love of drilling wells. The last 20 years Rick was a drilling foreman, managing some of the largest rigs in the Arabian Gulf for Aramco, the Saudi Arabian oil company. He brought in the three largest wells in Saudi history and brought back several major wells written off as lost. Prior to that he worked in oil fields throughout the Middle East, including Iran, Egypt and Abu Dhabi. He was held in high regard by his colleagues as a man of notable integrity and oil field expertise who would never endanger his men or equipment.
He is survived by his wife Christine, whom he called 32 years after their graduation from Windsor High School, where he never talked to her. He told her he was going to begin a relentless quest for her heart. They were married seven months later February 10, 2001 and she joined him in Saudi Arabia. He became a treasured member of the Kadlub family of Windsor, deeply admired and loved by Christine's parents, brothers and their wives, and her sister and husband.
Rick became a Christian eight years ago, and was baptized in the Jordan River on a trip to Israel. He came to love and appreciate the Lord for his sacrifice on the cross giving assurance and teaching love, which Rick embraced.
Also surviving him are his son, Luke (Anita and son Caleb) of Greeley; his daughter, Whisper (Christian and children Gwen, Ben and Bernie) of Durango; sisters, Cathy Best of Windsor, Julie (Lonnie) Jensen of Nunn, Jane Serna of Fort Collins; brothers Tom of Windsor and Billy (Crystal) of Fort Collins; and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death last year by his older brother, Rob of Las Vegas, and his mother and father.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Schrader Funeral Home. A graveside service with military honors will be conducted on Friday, August 12th at 10:00 a.m. at the Mountain View Memorial Park Cemetery in Cheyenne. Officiating the service will be Rick's dear friend and pastor for ten years, The Reverend Dr. Dwain Camp.
