Reba Mae Hannay

Reba Mae Hannay was born in Pittsburg, Kansas, passed away peacefully at home on April 2, 2016 in Long Beach, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin W. Hannay, Jr.; brother, Ashel T. Wagar, Jr.; sisters, Marie Wagar and Blanche Evans. Survived by her daughter, Lisa Leschinsky; granddaughter, Natasha Leschinsky; grandson, George Leschinsky, and numerous other family members she loved dearly. As a young woman, Reba had the opportunity to live in San Francisco and New York City while working for Aramco. This led to her next adventure, living on an American compound in Saudi Arabia with her daughter, and husband, who was involved with Aramco shipping. After her husband's passing in 1961, the San Francisco Bay area became home once again.

Bixby Knolls Towers in Long Beach, CA, had been her home for the past eighteen years, a place that she loved and had many dear friends. Volunteer work was one of her passions. She was Head Librarian at BKT for ten years and turned the library inside out in so many positive ways. She was active with the guild at St. Mary's Medical Center in Long Beach and served as President 1998-1999.

Reba had the gift of making a person feel welcome in any situation. Words often used to describe her were sweet, kind and caring. She loved apple pie, Bake and Broil being her favorite local spot for a slice, any time of day.

A heartfelt thanks to her caregivers, Alex and Erika, for all the love and tenderness they gave in her final days.

Because of her deep love for animals, she asked that in lieu of flowers, a donation to a local animal rescue be made in her name. At her request, there will not be a service. A celebration of her life is planned on Friday, April 8 at 1pm, Bixby Knolls Towers, Building "A" Room "A" Long Beach, CA.
