Philip Francis Scherrer

Philip Francis Scherrer, 84, of Pearland, TX passed away at home in his sleep next to his wife Dolores.  He will be remembered for his humor and wit, his passion and drive for living life to the fullest, for his kindness and compassion in bringing out the best in others.

Philip was born in Agate, CO and raised in Kirk, CO. After graduating from high school at age 16, he graduated with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Colorado in 1950.  He served his country from 1950 to 1952 in the Army Corps of Engineers.  In 1955, he joined Saudi Aramco in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.  Phil started out in construction and project management.  During the course of his 35 years of working for Saudi Aramco he rose to a senior level management position as Manager of Projects of the Master Gas Program.

Phil met his wife Dolores in 1955 in Dhahran at a Halloween party.  After a couple years of courtship, they married in 1958 in Saint Peter's Basilica in Rome, Italy.  Phil was active in the Saudi Aramco community.  He was an avid bridge player, and he coached minor league and little league baseball in Ras Tanura with the Dolphins, Eagles and Falcons.  He is fondly remembered for teaching his children and several of their friends how to drive in the family car.  After his retirement in 1989, he was President of the Bill Point Homeowners Association in Bainbridge Island, WA, and he volunteered with the VISTA program helping sailors in Bremerton, WA with their taxes.  He also served in Seattle, WA as an alternative dispute resolution mediator.  He was especially proud of his volunteer work as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) with the Kitsap County Juvenile Department from 1997 - 2003.  In 2003, he and Dolores moved from Bainbridge Island, WA to Pearland, TX to be closer to their grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Dolores, four children: Philip Scherrer and wife Cynthia, Tom Scherrer, Tina Zadow and husband Pat, Steve Scherrer and wife Carly, five grandchildren: Justin Scherrer and wife Christina, Kaitlin Zadow, Robert Zadow, Jarrett Zadow, and Lia Scherrer, and great-grandson Kellen Scherrer.

Friends are cordially invited to the visitation with the family on Monday, February 4, 2013 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Jeter Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX  77546 (281)992-7200.
