Percy B. Sundstrom Jr.
AIKEN – Percy B. "Swede" Sundstrom, Jr., 81, beloved husband of Charlene Hopla Sundstrom, passed away Friday, July 8, 2022, in Anchor Rehab and Healthcare Center.
A native of Elizabeth, NJ, Percy was a son of the late Percy Bertil Sundstrom, Sr. and Helen Frances Rogers Sundstrom. He grew up in Matawan, NJ, graduating high school in 1958. He served in the U. S. Navy during the Vietnam era as a Seabee in MCB5. He was a graduate of Monmouth University. Percy began his career as a construction engineer with City Service Oil Co. in New Jersey. He then worked with Arabian American Oil Company in Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia. He ended his career with Oyster Creek Nuclear Power Plant for 8 years, retiring in 1994. Percy and Charlene moved to Aiken in 2000. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in New Ellenton. He was a longtime volunteer at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center in Augusta.
Survivors, in addition to his wife of 54 years, Charlene, include two sons, Erik Sundstrom, Lavallette, NJ, Todd Sundstrom, Ridge Spring, SC; two grandchildren, Bryce Sundstrom, Alexa Sundstrom and a brother, Peter Sundstrom, North Carolina.
The family will receive friends Monday morning, July 18th beginning at 10 o'clock in the Family Life Center of St. Paul United Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow at 11 o'clock with The Rev. Joseph Kovas officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
