Pauline Fredricha Vickers
Pauline Fredricha Vickers was born on September 5th 1949 to parents Steve and Nellie. One of 5 siblings and later became a proud, big sister to her little brother Steve, the 6th and youngest of the family.
During the horrendous storms of 1962 Pauline was nearly taken from us when the large the chimney stack on top of their house was blown over!!! This came crashing down through ceiling & landed on Pauline. Fortunately Pauline escaped with minor cuts and bruises.
In 1982 Pauline started work for the Saudi Arabian Oil Company, ARAMCO, in Saudi Arabia as a Secretary. After a few months in Dhahran she was posted to Abqaiq where she met all the other British Secretaries including L.B, Penny, Rita, Phyl, Lesley, Louis and her closet friend Sue. Many of these friends are here today to be with Pauline for one last celebration.
Working in Saudi gave Pauline the opportunity to travel the world learning to water ski, paraglide and windsurf. She was part of the Brits' football and softball teams in Abqaiq and was lead singer in a band called 'The Flood. On one occasion she tried her hand at amateur dramatics and had a lead role in a play called "The Man Most Likely To …." Unsurprisingly, this never made it to the West End!
Whilst in Saudi, a one - eyed tom kitten befriended Pauline and they made a great team and named her Nelsie. Nelsie travelled with Pauline in 1998 when she left Saudi and set up home in South Africa, where one of her older sisters lived. A black Labrador called Jemma also shared her life out there and returned with Pauline when she came home to Leeds, in 2005.
In her latter years Pauline's illness clipped her wings a little but she loved her trips down to Sue and Dave's bungalow in Manning's Heath where Sue cared for her and built her up after each of her operations with her love and wholesome cooking.
Although those Pauline leaves behind will miss her dearly, it is now time for her to be reunited with those who have gone before her, so that they can now watch over you all from a beautiful place, far above this earth, safe in the knowledge that one day there will be a time to see you all again. Rest assured, as the family and friends of Pauline, that you now have your very own Guardian Angel.
