Nicholas Daviduk
Nicholas Daviduk, 91, of Pennington passed away on Friday, April 24, 2015, at home. Born in Bergenfield, NJ, Nick grew up in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Indiana, moving with his family as his father opened new parishes for the Eastern Orthodox Church. After serving in the Army in World War II, he attended Bucknell University, graduating with a chemical engineering degree in 1949. He began his career with Aramco, working overseas on the Saudi Arabian pipeline. While working at Aramco, he met his beloved wife, Joan. They married in 1953 and they moved to the Netherlands, where they lived until 1956. They returned to the States, settling in Berkeley Heights, NJ, where he took a position in Perth Amboy working for Chevron Corporation. He then began working at Mobil Research and Development as a chemical engineer in 1968. In 1971, he transferred to the Mobil facility in Hopewell Township, where he built a home, relocated his family, and lived in Hopewell Township ever since. Nick was a pioneer in the synthetic fuel industry, having jointly held 13 patents for his work in that field. He retired from Mobil Research in 1989. Nick loved spending time at the family summer home on Long Beach Island. He loved sailing and fishing, as well as enjoying time with family and friends. He had a passion for gardening, especially growing Jersey tomatoes. He took great pride in his four children and seven grandchildren, and especially enjoyed family gatherings. He loved to travel and explore new places. He was a worldwide traveler, having visited all seven continents. Nick was also a lifelong learner, and continued to attend lectures and seminars in the field of engineering right up until his death. He remained very active well into retirement, riding his bike to buy the morning paper until he was 88 years old. Son of the late Gabriel and Olga Toffic Daviduk and husband of the late Joan T. Kennedy, he is survived by two sons, Robert N. Daviduk of Manhattan Beach, CA, and John A. Daviduk of New York, NY; two daughters and son-in-law, Nancy K. Swaim of Pennington, and Sandra and Anthony Bonasera of Hopewell, and seven grandchildren, Tyler and Connor Swaim; Kendall and Griffin Daviduk, Andrew and Joan Bonasera, and Bryce Daviduk. Calling hours will be Monday, April 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Wilson-Apple Funeral Home, 2560 Pennington Road, Pennington. Services will be held at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
