Murry Ray Burleigh

Murry Ray Burleigh, 81, died Tuesday, March 8, 2016, in his residence.

Born and raised in Opelousas, Louisiana to Louis Phillip and Irene Agatha Hunt Burleigh, Mr. Burleigh was a 1953 graduate of Opelousas High School and attended Southeast Louisiana College in Hammond. He worked for Firestone Tire and Rubber for 23 years as an inspector, operations foreman, and maintenance foreman, retiring in 1980. He then began a thirteen year career with Aramco, where he was maintenance foreman and a planning programmer. Mr. Burleigh was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. He enjoyed fly fishing, golfing, and was an excellent gardener.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Carlyn Gerlach Burleigh; one son, Randall David Burleigh and wife Keri of Westlake; four daughters, Debbie Lynn Burleigh Rauser and husband Kenneth of Sulphur, Andrea Jill Crow of Dallas, Lisa Kae Burns and husband Bret of Grayson, Louisiana, and Julie Burleigh and husband Kirk of Cameron; one stepson, Karl Stutsman of Keller, Texas; one brother, Gary Burleigh of Texas; two sisters, Elizabeth Regan of Egan, Louisiana and Christine Burleigh of Washington, Louisiana; fourteen grandchildren; and fifteen great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and the mother of his children, JoAnn Ryder Burleigh, and one sister, Winona Burleigh Grant.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Father Jeff Starkovich will officiate. Interment will be at Consolata Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be on Friday from 4 until 9 p.m., with a Cursillo rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m., and from 8 until 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.

The family would like to express their grateful appreciation for the compassionate care given their beloved husband and father to Dr. Gerry Hebert, the doctors and nursing staff of M. D. Anderson Cancer Research Hospital, in particular Dr. Paul Corn, and to the staff of Amedysis Hospice.
