Martha Louise Albert Putnam
Martha Louise Albert Putnam passed away Friday evening, Feb. 28, 2014, at the Melech Hospice House in Tampa, Florida. She was born at home on November 8, 1929 in Myerstown, Pennsylvania to Henry and Blanche Albert. Martha worked at the Albert Bros. Bakery in Myerstown. She graduated from Myerstown High School in 1947, then went on to graduate with a BS in Mathematics from Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, PA in 1951, where she was a field hockey and basketball captain. After graduation she worked at GE in New York. Martha was a dedicated Lutheran. She married Rhea Putnam on February 13, 1954. They raised four children, living in the U.S., Lebanon, England, and Saudi Arabia.
Martha was a quilter, an avid reader, and a math tutor. She volunteered at Nassawadox Hospital in VA, taught sixth grade in Beirut, Lebanon, and was an avid game player, including Bridge, Hearts, Canasta, Pinochle, Hosse, and was known to play a tough game of Parcheesi. Martha also loved to shop.
Martha was preceded in death by her father and mother, Harold (brother), and nephew Jimmy Albert. She is survived by her brother Paul Albert (Alice) of Myerstown, PA; children: Pam Moeller (Lee) of Clear Lake, IA; Stephen Putnam of West Burke, VT; Lyn Heinz of Tampa, Florida; Peter Putnam (Jane) of North Andover, MA. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Martha will be buried in her family cemetery in Myerstown, PA on July 13, 2014. The service is being planned by her family and will be held at the Friedens Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, the family is accepting donations to Lifepath Hospice and Friedens Lutheran Church.
