Margaret "Meg" Esther (Hvizdak) Northway
Margaret "Meg" Esther (Hvizdak) Northway, age 90, went home to her heavenly father on April 1st , 2016. She is survived by her daughter, Lauren "Laurie" Auth (Richard) and son, Retired Marine Corps Lieutenant Colonel George Whitbeck (Cathy), grandchildren, Greg Price (Carol), Christine Molea (Brent), Jenn Riley (Gabe) and Michelle Hilleke (David), and three great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews. Margaret was one of 12 siblings of John and Susan Hvizdak and was born in a farmhouse in Coeymans, NY. In June 1948, Meg graduated from State Teachers College at Plattsburg (NY) with a Bachelor of Science in Education.
On December 27, 1952, she married George Whitbeck III and had three children, Lauren "Laurie", Lynne, and George Steven. Lynne passed away in 1975. In 1965, her husband, George, accepted a position with Aramco in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. George passed away from cancer in 1969, and Margaret moved with her children to the sunny state of Florida, settling down in Clearwater.
Margaret was involved in her church activities and from time to time, taught sewing and upholstery classes in an adult education program. Margaret was a loving sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, friend and church member; she was also an avid tennis player. She enjoyed bridge, bike riding and bowling. She met and married Richard Gates in Clearwater; he passed away in 1983.
At the age of 71, Meg moved to Tucson, Arizona for a less humid climate. Soon after, she met and married Mervyn Northway who preceded her in death. In 2004, her first great grandchild, Gregory Christian Price, Jr. was born, followed by her namesake great granddaughter, Margaret Price, in 2008. In 2013, she was blessed with a second great grandson, Beckett Riley. A memorial service and Celebration of Life will be held at Bethlehem Community Church in Delmar, NY on April 23rd, 2016.
