Majed Assad Elass

Majed Assad Elass, 75, a McLean resident and vice president in charge of the Washington offices of Aramco Services Co. when he retired in 1991 after a 34-year career with the oil giant, died of congestive heart failure Aug. 29, 2001 at Sibley Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Elass served from 1991 to 1993 as chief of the Washington-based energy publishing firm, The Oil Daily Co.
He was a native of Jubata al-Zayt, in the Golan Heights of Syria. He served as mayor there in the 1940s before moving to the United States in the 1950s.
He received a law degree from Syrian University and a master's degree in international relations from the University of Wisconsin.
He worked at Aramco offices in New York and Saudi Arabia before moving to the Washington area in 1984, settling in McLean.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Jackie Elass of McLean; three sons, Tareck, of Vienna, Mateen, of Wheaton, Ill., and Jareer, of Reston; a daughter, Tami Elass Percle of Reston; and seven grandchildren.
