Linda Anderson passed away on July 12, 2012 at her home in Poetry, Texas.  She had a rare, fast growing form of ovarian cancer, but she didn't suffer long and that was a blessing.  At her side were her husband of 42 years, Tom Anderson, and daughter, Cheryl Anderson.  Linda had a long, great life, with many accomplishments, good experiences, happy times and no regrets.

Linda was born in Odessa, TX on October 30, 1947.  Her father, Herman Robertson, was a carpenter and her mother, Blanche Bentley Robertson, was a homemaker.  Both are deceased.  She is survived by two brothers, Cecil Robertson of Odessa, TX and Gary Robertson of Gardendale, TX, and by a sister, Carol Robertson Mistry of Garland, TX.

Linda attended schools in Odessa until her father died when she was 15, and shortly after that she moved to Dallas to live with her sister and brother-in-law.  She graduated from Bryan Adams High School in Dallas in 1966.  She attended Howard Payne University and Texas Tech University, and in 1971 she graduated from Lamar University, in Beaumont, TX with a BA in English and Spanish, plus a teaching certificate in Secondary Education.  In 1979 she received an MBA from Lamar University.

Linda and Tom were married in 1970 at the All Faiths Chapel at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX, where Tom was a senior in chemical engineering.   Their daughter, Cheryl, was born in 1983 in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, while they lived and worked for Saudi Aramco.

Their married life involved moves related to work in the oil industry, including Port Arthur, TX, Cincinnati, OH, Abqaiq and Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, Beaumont, TX, and Dallas, TX.   Prior to the birth of Cheryl in 1983, Linda taught English in public schools in Port Arthur and Cincinnati, and in Dhahran she taught English to Saudi Arab employees of Saudi Aramco.  She also worked as a stock broker and as a financial analyst.

After the birth of Cheryl, Linda remained at home, but beginning in the early 1990's they bought Arabian horses.  For the remainder of her life, along with Cheryl, Linda trained and rode Arabian horses.  Over the years they won many classes and awards, both at local and national levels.  For the past ten years they lived on their horse farm in Poetry, TX, where Linda rode and trained horses, and managed breeding of mares to their champion Arabian stallion.

Linda loved adventure and travel.  When they were in Saudi Arabia in the 1970s and 80s, they did scuba diving in the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf, camping in the desert, and visiting ancient ruins.  They traveled throughout the Middle East, including Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Cyprus, Iran, Turkey, Afghanistan, India and Nepal.  On various trips to Europe they traveled through Italy, Greece, Sicily, France, Spain, England, Scotland, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Norway, Sweden, and Denmark.  In the Americas they traveled through most of the US and Canada, plus Mexico and Peru.

Linda wanted to be cremated and have her ashes scattered in a garden area behind their home.  She also wanted a memorial service to be held at their home in Poetry, TX, which was her part of heaven, and that all friends and family be invited to celebrate her life, great experiences and good times.   Linda asked that the memorial service be a happy affair for everyone, with no tears, as she had no regrets about her life.

To honor Linda's wishes, all family and friends are invited to the memorial service, and anyone with happy stories relating to Linda, her family and friends, will be invited share them as part of the service.  The service will be in the back yard of their home, at 10194 County Road 2434, Poetry, TX 75160 on Sunday, September 2nd, at 3 PM, followed by a catered barbeque meal at 5 PM.  This is to be a very casual affair, with attire of jeans or other comfortable clothes.

All friends and family are invited to the service and meal.  However, please RSVP for both the service and meal to Tom Anderson by calling and leaving a message on his cell phone at 972-567-3451, or his email at tca70@att.net, stating who will attend the service, plus who will join us for the barbeque meal.

We also ask that, in lieu of flowers or gifts, donations in Linda's name be made to a horse related venture, Equest Therapeutic Horsemanship in Wylie Texas.  Donations can be made by going to the Equest website at Equest Therapeutic Horsemanship, and clicking on Charitable Giving.
