Under: Obituary

Linda Louise Heikkinen passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2005, at her home in Redondo Beach, California, following a two-year battle with ovarian cancer. She was 54.

Born in Seattle, Washington, on June 9, 1950, she was the youngest child of The Reverend Chester R. and Bertha (Martin) Heikkinen.

She attended Augsburg College, the Lutheran Bible Institute, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the Columbia University School of Nursing in New York City, where she was in the top of her class. She served as a Critical Care Nurse in Saudi Arabia for 10 years, and thereafter continued her career in California in a variety of specialties.

She was active in her local churches and supported international evangelical charities. She is remembered as a person with a bright, impish wit, imaginative and resourceful, and an agile intellect with many creative outlets. She was a musician, pilot, linguist, a student of history, the fine arts, English and German literature, and poetry. She was conversant in the Arabic language. She maintained a childlike curiosity in her travels and was grateful for the chance to expand her knowledge of other cultures. She loved to share with her friends all her discoveries, recounting them in amazing, amusing detail. She had a stunning smile.

Linda is survived by her father, Chester Heikkinen of Robbinsdale, Minnesota; two sisters, Karen M. Zeider and family of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Sharon Heikkinen Hall of Santa Monica, California; a brother, David A. Heikkinen and his wife Sandra of Minneapolis; and several relatives of Wilbur.

Services were held in Minneapolis on July 23, 2005. Inurnment took place at the Sherman Cemetery north of Wilbur, Washington.
