Leslie George Lewis
Leslie George Lewis passed away on 1 August, 2013. He leaves behind Lois, his wife of 56 wonderful years, his four children: Leslie, Kathy, Tony and Mike, eleven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and one great-grandson.
Les was born in Gloversville, New York, in 1937, and later moved with his family to Washington, D.C. Following Les' graduation from Georgetown University's School of Business, Les was admitted to the US Foreign Service. He and his family spent the next two and a half years at the American Consulate in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. Subsequently, he attended Syracuse University College of Law where he graduated Suma Cum Laude.
Les began his 35-year legal career with the Arabian American Oil Company (Aramco) in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. His progression through the ranks from "Junior Counsel" to "Associate General Counsel" transpired in a shorter period of time than had ever been accomplished in Aramco history. In 1979, Les became the head of the law department at Aramco's headquarters in Houston, Texas. Despite complications from open-heart surgery and his consequent paralysis in 1983, Les continued to serve as the Associate General Counsel of Aramco until his retirement in 2000.
Throughout his life, Les' generosity and giving touched the lives of countless people. He supported many charitable causes, especially St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, where he served on the Professional Advisory Board of the hospital. Les has been the rock and foundation of his family. Over the years, his family and friends were blessed to love and support him through open-heart surgery, paralysis, and cancer. Through these trials, they came to admire and cherish the time they shared with him.
To celebrate his life, the rosary and viewing will be held at 6:00 pm, Monday, 5 August, at St. Michael's Catholic Church located at 1801 Sage Road, Houston, Texas 77056. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, 6 August, also at St. Michael's.
As an expression of sympathy, Memorial Remembrances may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
