Lee Orren Moon, Jr.
Lee Orren Moon, Jr. made his transition at home on Saruday, December 18, 2010 in Spring Texas Surrounded in peace and love by his family and friends. Lee was born in 1924, in Alabama City, Alabama, graduated from Emma Sansom High School where he was head cheerleader and played basketball. During World War II he was a decorated Marine for his military service in the Pacific during the invasions of Saipan and Guam. He graduated from Auburn University in 1951 and formered the chapter and was the first charter president of Delta Chi Fraternity. He was a lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, the American Association of Safety Engineers, the Elks Club, and Bible Baptist Church in Bradenton, Florida. He was a licensed professional safety engineer and risk manager who worked for many years in the insurance industry with Liberty Mutual, Reliance, and Indiana's Lumberman's Mutual Insurance companies before beginning his international consulting work in the natural gasa and oil fields of Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Korea, and Trinidad-Tobago with several companies including Roy M.Huffington, Mobile Oil, Shell Oil, and ARAMCO. He returned to the United States and worked as head of safety for the city of Key West Florida Electric Company until he retired. The oldest son of Lee Orren and Beecie Moon, he was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Elaine, and daughter Janice. He is survived by his two daughters Kathie Moon or Sarasota, FL and Laurie Moon of Spring, TX, son in law Roger Majors of Spring, TX, grandson Lee Majors, granddaughter Robin Boggs of Arkansas, sister Lillian Clayton of Gadsden, brother Clarence Norman "Bunk" Moon (Rita)of Fayettevill, GA, brother in law Melvin McLaughlin of Randalph Vermont and several nieces, nephews, and cousins as well as his wife Betty Harvey Handy Moon of Gadsden and cat Sammy Davis Moon. Arrangements are through Crestwood Memorial Funeral home and Cemetery . A memorial celebration of his life service is to be held at Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home Chapel at 1:00pm Monday January 17, 2011. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice or to the Humane Society of Manatee County, 2515 14th Street West, Bradenton, FL, 34205.
