John W. Barnes
John W. Barnes of Ras Tanura died Sunday, Aug. 20, in Doctors Hospital, Staten Island, N.Y., after a long illness.
Mr. Barnes, originally from Bayonne, N. J., was born on Aug. 23, 1921. Prior to coming to Saudi Arabia, he was employed by the General Aniline Co. in Linden, N.J. He came to Aramco as a refinery operator in April 1955 and was soon promoted to lead distillation and reformer operator. In May 1957 he became lead hydro former operator. He was transferred to terminal oil handling in October 1957 and became head pier operator in February 1958. In June, 1962 he was part of the engineering division as tank and structural inspector and in July of 1962 was made plant equipment inspector, the position he held until June of this year when his illness forced his return to the United States for medical care.
During his tenure with Aramco, Mr. Barnes was an active participant in softball and a member of the Ras Tanura Golf Club.
Services were held for Mr. Barnes at the Sacred Heart Church in Point Pleasant, N.J. on August 23. Surviving Mr. Barnes are his daughter, Patricia, 22, and his son Thomas John, 19.
