John Aloysius Dougherty III

John Aloysius Dougherty III passed away on Sunday, September 29th in Warrensburg, Missouri at the Ridge Crest Nursing Center, after a 15-year battle with Parkinson’s disease.

John was born March 22, 1947, in Kansas City, Missouri, the eldest son of seven children born to John Aloysius Dougherty Jr. and Catherine Louise Dougherty née Hix. He graduated from Rockhurst High School in 1964 and received his master’s degree in accounting from Northern Illinois University in 1980.

John was a kind man who celebrated academics and the arts. He was a lifelong Kansas City Chiefs fan and proudly performed as a male cheerleader for the Chiefs in 1967. He was a Vista Volunteer and spoke fluent Arabic, as well as conversational Vietnamese, Latin, and Greek. He lived and traveled all around the world, but always considered the Kansas City area his home. His other passions included theater, music, and library science.

Survivors include his children: Shana Dougherty; Megan Dougherty; Kristin Dougherty; Jade Dougherty; Max Stevens; Bryn Dougherty; grandchildren: Drake Dougherty; Darion Dougherty; Lisha Dougherty; Dana Dougherty; Caelan Lee; Amber Lee; great grandchildren: Tristin Mitchell; Aiden Mitchell; Maddie Heffner; and siblings: Michael Dougherty; Patricia Wozniak; Tim Dougherty; Kevin Dougherty; Casey Ashe; and Mary Dougherty. He is preceded in death by his parents: John and Catherine Dougherty; and son: Ryan Dougherty.
