Janis Lee Powers, 68, died on August 23, 2011, in Elizabeth, Colorado. Janis, born on June 30, 1943 in Elizabethtown, New York, was the eldest of the 3 children of Robert and Aida Sirrine.

She graduated from Port Henry High School, Port Henry, NY in 1961 and received a BA from SUNY Albany in 1965, majoring in French and ultimately becoming a French teacher. She married William "Whitey" Powers, also a native of Port Henry, on March 25, 1967. They had one child, Brooke Gail Powers born in 1972. Janis lived in Port Henry until she and her family moved to Saudi Arabia in 1973.

Janis and her family lived in Saudi Arabia for 16 years working for the Arabian American Oil Company (ARAMCO.) During this time she and her family enjoyed traveling throughout Asia and Europe. An avid golfer and skier, she enjoyed both, and traveled throughout the west, during their retirement years (1989-2006) in Durango, Colorado.

She is survived by her husband, Whitey Powers; daughter Brooke Powers; sister Gail Sirrine; stepson, Mitch Powers.
