James Preston Kenny, Jr.
James Preston Kenny, Jr. passed away peacefully on September 22, 2008 after a seven month struggle with brain cancer.
He is survived by his sisters, Sharon Kenny Vreeland of Corpus Christi, Texas and Gene Kenny Rodgers of Houston, Texas. Two nieces also survive him.
"J.P." was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on January 17, 1944 to James P. Kenny Sr. and Genevieve Leland Kenny. In 1951 the family moved to Corpus Christi, Texas where he graduated from W.B. Ray High School in 1961. He earned a Masters Degree in Engineering from SMU. He was then employed by NASA where he helped design components for the space shuttle. Later he spent 20 years in Saudi Arabia as a regional engineer with Aramco.
JP lived in Abqaiq and worked mainly in Shedgum operations engineering on GOSP conversions to the Desalting and Gas Gathering programs.
During vacations he traveled throughout Asia, including Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. Many interesting stories came from his travels including walking across the original bridge over the River Kwai. After his retirement in 2001 he returned to Corpus Christi, Texas where he had many life long friends. During his illness his sisters learned he had friends throughout the world who sent words of encouragement and support. The family would like to thank his caregivers at Lynn Haven Nursing Center and Odyssey Hospice for their many kindnesses.
There was a Memorial Mass celebrated on Monday, September 29, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to the American Cancer Society.
